Oh, October.

Hello.

And welcome!

How happy we are to see you;

how delighted we are that you've come.

Y'all. I wrote that first bit up there re: October two weeks ago (!!!) Things have been so crazy for me in the days since I just could not get this little note finished. But here we now and so LET'S DO THIS and go right on with all the October love our little hearts can stand. Because we don't want to miss out on a single minute of this bathed-in-golden-light month. Temps have cooled; light has softened; the sky has turned that only-in-October blue. WE MIGHT JUST MAKE IT AFTER ALL.

I love everything Elizabeth Gilbert writes, so I will start with that. And yet I wasn't particularly drawn to this novel as I saw it promoted--I can't even say why. But it kept insisting itself to me and so I finally picked it up. I liked it. I really liked it! (Of course I did, Liz Gilbert is a fantastic writer.) City of Girls is a fun look at life in the theater in New York City in the 40s, and I loved the spirit of feminism woven through it.

On Reckoning with a Mother's Relentless Need to Save Everything
Tim and I are in the throes of moving right now, and to say the experience is…ummm…stressful…simply does not do it justice. Still we go on, throwing out, giving away, letting go. It is good, healthy work but is it hard for me. SO HARD. So no wonder Donna Masini's perspective sang. So many of us are dealing with this struggle, wherever we fall in the generational lineup.

This acoustic performance of More Than Words by the judges of The Voice.
So good.

This one is on my Things To Cook This Month list. I've never made anything from Cookie and Kate that wasn't divine--I'm betting this Creamy Pumpkin Marinara Pasta is no exception.

Letting Go.
We have been clearing out our house, a daunting task that is taking a great emotional toll. And still there are the sweet moments that (almost) make it worth it.
