Day 24: In Which I Steal (A Little) From Shop Tart

Jan 7, 2013 | 30 Days of Joy

Yes, I know. Christmas is over.

And yet I continue to giggle at a holiday Facebook status update from my friend Anne Postic, aka The Shop Tart. The comment rolled so quickly down my FB wall it’s a wonder I saw it at all. But I did, and I laughed, and then I took a little screen grab. And it’s been sitting there on my Mac desktop ever since, that little funny, the perfect reminder of the order and the chaos and the tradition and the surprise of the holiday season.

priceless

Several years ago our minister, the Rev. Dr. Michael T. Bragan, suggested we choose one Christmas tree ornament to leave out all year, a quiet reminder of the miracle, a trigger to bring our hearts back to blessed.

I have always loved that idea.

This year, mine just may be that status update. What a gift it offers in its reminding of the excitement of those bathrobe-clad shepherds—wild with anticipation, eager to be a part of something grand, able to believe in a promise they don’t yet understand.

Thank you, Shop Tart.
